I am a Sovietologist and the biggest private collector of Soviet memorabilia in the world. It all started with a 1:43 scale model truck of Aeroflot Airlines many years ago and I haven’t been able to stop since.
My niece who loves visiting museums saw my collection and said I should have it on display for people to see. She said a lot of museums start out as private collections and grow from there. After giving it some thought, I decided to create this online museum and maybe one day I can have my collection displayed in a physical place. My current collection is located in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The Soviet Museum was founded in 2022 with the goal of preserving Soviet culture and history, an empire that no longer exists but left a lot of history behind. I want to portray that culture and history as close to the real thing as possible. All my items are 100% original from the Soviet Union unless otherwise stated. At the moment there are very few replicas. My collection is from the cold war era, the end of WWII to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. Everything on display is in working order and it fits me. If I want something and it doesn't fit me or it does not work, I do not buy it.
I receive items from all 15 ex-Soviet republics on a weekly basis so my collection is always growing. It is a hobby which is taking a lot of my free time and will probably take a while before my entire collection is up online. My collection is strong in the Aviation segment but it is quickly branching out into other areas.
My goal is to show people how the citizens of the 15 republics of the Soviet Union, a country closed off to most of the world for seven decades, lived their daily lives. With over one thousand items in hand and growing weekly, I hope there is something you will find interesting and will also learn something in the process.
